Why use fluoride to dental caries?

Fluorine is one of essential trace elements, mainly by drinking water or food through the digestive tract into the body. Because fluoride and hydroxyapatite have a special affinity, so the proper amount of fluoride can improve the ability of anti-caries teeth. Therefore, recently used fluoride to prevent dental caries.

Role of fluoride against dental caries:

(1) to promote remineralization. Many scholars believe that the key to enhance the anti-caries is to increase the power of the surface enamel fluoride concentration, the fluoride ion with hydroxyapatite enamel apatite crystals react with hydroxyl ions to replace, but insoluble in water to form fluorapatite, enhanced acid strength. Enamel surface is the main source of fluoride intake by a small amount of fluoride in the body of the salivary glands and secreted into the saliva, gingival crevicular fluid, the other is the local fluoride.

(2) fluoride to inhibit the growth of cariogenic bacteria and integrated the role of polysaccharide. The incidence of caries in the tooth surface with adhesion of bacteria closely related. Experiments show that certain concentrations of fluoride can inhibit the cariogenic streptococcus polysaccharide storage cells. Intracellular polysaccharide is a bacterial nutrient, the lack of it affects the bacterial metabolism, growth and reproduction. Fluoride also inhibit cariogenic Streptococcus Dental Reviews comprehensive role of extracellular polysaccharides. Extracellular polysaccharide accumulation and adhesion of bacteria to form plaque on tooth surface of the substrate. Lack of extracellular polysaccharides of bacteria in the tooth surface would hinder adhesion.

(3) the role of fluoride inhibitory activity. Fluoride is an effective anti-enzyme agents, fluoride tooth structure can be outward or inward through the saliva of the two channels into the plaque, inhibition of glycolytic enzymes as organic acids, thereby reducing the formation of organic acids, the tooth plaque acidity to keep the DH value 5.51 ~ Jc, the demineralization of dental hard tissue was suspended, the corresponding lower prevalence of dental caries. Fluoride supplement is an important aspect of prevention of dental caries, the sooner the better, started to accept pre-fluoride supplement, gN ~ Ng50% ~ 70%, 6-year-old began to add, caries prevalence can be reduced by 20%. 45%. Currently fluoride caries in many ways, depending on the circumstances the appropriate choice of method.
